MT. APO NATURAL PARK

Established in 1936, the Mt. Apo Natural Park has an area of 72,113 hectares. Only 50 kilometers from Davao, the park offers spectacular mountain scenery, waling-waling Wanda sanderiana) orchids, special wildlife, Philippine Eagle Breeding Center, and interesting culture of local community.

Both local and foreign mountaineers visit the park during the months of March, April and October to December. Visitors are advised to proceed to the Protected Area Superintendent's (PASu) Office for a brief orientation on the protected area and rules and regulations before entering the park.

PHILIPPINE EAGLE RESEARCH AND NATURE CENTER

The rare and endangered Philippine Eagle, endemic to the forests of the Philippines, makes its home in this nature conservatory. Spread over a vast forest reserve that is also home to a wide variety of indigenous plants and Philippine birds, this center is responsible for the propagation of the species.

The Philippine eagle, P. jefferyi, is by far the most important bird species in Mt. Apo. This bird is not found elsewhere in the world and has become the symbol of environmental preservation in the country.
